Free Time for Mom:  Adult Coloring Books!

6/29/2016

The role of a mother is not only a tough and rewarding position to fill in, but one treasured and honored
with love. With summer here, moms tend to hear their name called more often than not! With work, camp, and added free time for the kids, summer could be more stressful for mom then it needs to
be.

Coloring books have easily taken hold as an international trend for stress relief and as a neat hobby
for adults! Art has been recognized as therapeutic for years, as the action of coloring can help with organizing the mind to what cannot be put into words or even simply help to enjoy the moment and
focus on the present.

But enough of the science talk! We at Tomfoolery would like to show you this hilariously brilliant article:  According to the Independent, the craze
for adult coloring books prompts a global shortage in pencils!  Click here to read more!

Book Review:  Reading With Sharks!

6/7/2016

Picture
I’m a Shark, written by Bob Shea, is a cute book intended for children ages four to eight years old.  The story follows a shark and his adorably friendly personality! The artwork of the book is very colorful and playful, and shark tells of all the amazing big-kid things he can do such as getting a shot without crying!

Other ocean animals also come and interact with shark, with each animal’s speech written in different font sizes and colors, with what should be read more impactful in a larger, bolder font. The way in which the book is written aids the parent or child reading in order to make the story and story time more exciting and engaging! The shark explains his interests and random quirks, making him, and essentially all shark related things afterwards, more friendly and not something to be scared of. As shark’s personality is very bold, courageous, and silly he’s sure to bring a lot of giggles and retaliated excitement while reading!

Shark Detective, written by Jessica Olien, is a book we have recently introduced to story time at Tomfoolery, and it has brought along much excitement! This book is intended for children ages four to eight years old and follows the story of a shark who’s dream is to become a detective, so in order to do so he tries to find a cat in a missing cat sign, and upon finding this cat and befriending it, the owners’ of the cat thank him and invite him to stay!

The artwork is very cute as well, and is sure to entertain and easily get a child invested in reading. There are moments in the story where shark does silly things in order to find the cat, which will definitely bring along giggles and smiles during story time! A particular favorite moment is when shark goes out to start asking for witnesses of this lost cat but when one person runs away screaming the shark’s going to eat me!!, shark, dumbfounded, exclaims, but I’m a vegetarian!

Follow shark wearing his adorable detective hat as he goes on an adventure to find that cat!
